I. MESSAGE FROM THE COMMISSIONER

This is it, the final week of games and some of the 14 playoff spots are still up for grabs and only two actual positions are clinched right now with New England #1 and NY Giants #2 in the NFC. Once again, lets get games set up early and I ask everyone to do their best to play the game head to head and give your opponent the best fight you can no matter the status of your team. Good luck to all and I will get out a final regular newsletter next Monday night but likely won’t have playoff files until shortly after.

The AFC playoffs are still a bit mess with no positions clinched and 9 team still with a shot of getting in. Denver clinched the conference and a by with a win or Indianapolis loss, while Indianapolis can take the top spot with a win and Denver loss to LA Chargers, and will clinch #2 at least with a win. San Francisco clinches the West with a win or Chargers loss and has a small chance at the #2 seed if Indy loses and the tiebreakers fall right. LA Chargers can clinch the West with a win and San Fran loss and will clinch no worse than #4 with a win.  Pittsburgh clinches #5 with a win and can move up to #4 with a Chargers loss and along with Chargers have clinched a playoff spot no matter the other results. Winner of Green Bay and NY Jets is in the playoffs, loser will need Cleveland and Chicago to lose to still have a shot. Cleveland is in with a win over Denver or has to hope for tiebreaker help with a loss as we could have three teams tied at 8-9 for the final spot if Chicago wins. Buffalo, LA Rams, Dallas, Tennessee and Minnesota are all headed to the golf course.

In the NFC playoffs New England is clinched as the #1 seed and their game means nothing to them. Same for NY Giants who are clinched for the #2 seed and both teams likely will be resting players to get ready for their first playoff game. The fun begins out West where Arizona plays New Orleans and Carolina has Philadelphia and any of those 3 teams all have a chance to win the division depending on how things play out (and any of them could also miss the playoffs). Atlanta clinches the #4 see with a win at Jacksonville or could drop into a tie with a bunch of teams at 11-6 and end up anywhere from #4 to #7. Houston and Kansas City both have what should be easier opponents and lock up playoff spots with wins, but could drop out if either gets upset. Jacksonville has a very outside chance to get in to the playoffs but need a couple of the 10 win teams to lose and find the right tiebreaker combination. Detroit, Philadelphia, Seattle, Miami and Tampa Bay are all done for the season but can create some havoc in week 18.

Please make sure to get started on game contacts asap and don’t forget to CC me on all of them so I can make sure games are getting set up smoothly.  Let’s see if we can hit the first week deadline with all games played head-to-head and as always if you need help let us know.  If you need a sub, please contact Jeff Shelton asap so he can try and get you hooked up with someone to get your game in.  Make sure you have the latest action update which is available on the website.  Updated game files are up, so make sure you go download them and start making contact for week 17 games. If you have any questions, now is the time, so please ask before we get too far into things.

I can’t stress enough that you need to IMMEDIATELY send me your game export when the game is complete.  Send your write up later on, that’s fine, but I MUST have the game export as soon as the game ends or I’ll have to sim the game to keep things moving along if it is missing at the deadline.

***There is a new game update available on the website, dated 11/6/23 ***

Don’t forget, if you lose a player for 2 or more games, you can ask for an injury replacement, but it must be done the same week as the injury, so don’t wait, get those requests in right away and take advantage, especially the teams who are already challenged for the amount of games they have to work with.  Also, be sure you give me enough names as the more injuries the more likely someone else already grabbed the guy you want.

Reminder that you MUST send a boxscore and writeup to the league after each game.  The home team is responsible for this, but either team can do it, as long as it does get done.  Also, you MUST send me the game export immediately after the game is complete.  It takes about 30 seconds, so I shouldn’t have to chase you down for that file after a game, just get it in right away so I don’t have to guess whether a game has happened or not.

II. News from Around the League

In the AFC Denver downs NY Jets but still need another win or Colts loss to clinch the conference even with Indianapolis falling to LA Chargers. Green Bay upsets Houston and Cleveland drops Buffalo as both stay in a tie for the final playoff spot. San Francisco just gets by Dallas to stay percentage points ahead of LA Chargers and Pittsburgh falls to Carolina but still sit at #5 in the conference. Chicago falls to Tampa Bay to all but drop out of the playoff race and Tennessee squeaks by Minnesota. LA Rams fall to Arizona.

In the NFC New England doubles up Kansas City and clinches the #1 seed and a by while NY Giants shut out Jacksonville and are the #2 seed. Carolina beats Pittsburgh to move into a tie atop the West as New Orleans falls to Philadelphia. Atlanta takes down Seattle in a high scoring affair and sit in the #4 spot while Houston falls to Green Bay and they sit tied with KC and the West loser for the final 3 playoff spots. Arizona tops the LA Rams to stay a half game out of the division lead and Detroit beats up on Miami. Tampa Bay upsets Chicago to get their second win and move into a tie with Miami for the #1 lottery spot.

Coming up in the AFC Denver clinches the #1 seed and a bye with a win over LA Chargers and Indianapolis still has a shot if they win at Dallas and the Broncos lose. San Francisco clinches the West with a win over Tennessee or Chargers loss and Pittsburgh can clinch the #4 seed with a win over Tampa Bay and a Chargers loss. Green Bay and NY Jets are basically playing for a playoff spot while Cleveland heads to a New England team with nothing to play and can clinch a playoff spot with a win. Chicago has an outside chance if they can beat LA Rams and the right combination of losses from Packers, Browns and Jets. Minnesota heads to Seattle and Buffalo is in Houston to close out the schedule.

Coming up in the NFC New England hosts Cleveland and may be resting some bodies while NY Giants head to Detroit and likely will be doing the same. Out West is where the fun is as New Orleans hosts Arizona and Carolina visits Philadelphia and any of those teams can still win the division and make the playoffs. Atlanta can clinch the 4 seed with a win at Jacksonville who needs win and lot of help to get into the playoffs but that would involve Houston losing versus Buffalo, Kansas City falling at Miami or the right combination from the losers out West. Seattle hosts Minnesota with an outside chance at the #1 overall pick while Tampa Bay is in Pittsburgh looking to lock that spot up.
