I. MESSAGE FROM THE COMMISSIONER

Final week of the season and it is still one big, jumbled mess as the NFC has all 7 slots filled, but no one has clinched their position yet and the AFC has 2 spots left and positioning left to do.  In the NFC, Houston has to beat New England to be the #1 seed, otherwise we could have 3 teams tied at 14-3 and tiebreakers will become important though the Patriots would have the inside track and Houston would drop to #4.  New Orleans wins the West with a win or Arizona loss and can still be the #1 seed but needs help while Arizona can still win the division and be the #2 seed.  In the East, Detroit and Jacksonville are fighting to the end for the #3 seed with the loser falling all the way to #7 and having to play #2 in round 1. Kansas City and Arizona are fighting out for #5 and #6 to avoid Houston or New England in round 1.

In the AFC, Chicago is the #1 seed with a win, though NY Jets are alive for the spot still with a win and Bears loss.  LA Chargers are locked into the #3 seed and wait to see who they get in round 1.  Pittsburgh is the #4 seed with a win, but could drop to #5 with a loss and look to be getting a first round matchup with Denver who sits at #5 right now.  Indianapolis is #6, but could fall all the way out with a loss and wins by Tennessee and San Francisco, otherwise those two teams are fighting for #7 along with Buffalo and LA Rams who have very slim chances of squeaking in.

Please, do your best to be on time when you set you games and and don’t forget you should be CCing me each time. Also, you should be sending out a boxscore (which you have to save after the game) and a .xbx file for each game and a small write up would be nice as well for each game.  Don’t forget that if you need a sub for a game you should be emailing Jeff Shelton directly to set that up rather than going through the email list to avoid confusion on who is subbing. Week 18 files are ready to go on the website, please get them and get going on game contacts as soon as possible and make sure you are CCing me on those so I know what is going on.

I can’t stress enough that you need to IMMEDIATELY send me your game export when the game is complete.  Send your write up later on, that’s fine, but I MUST have the game export as soon as the game ends or I’ll have to sim the game to keep things moving along if it is missing at the deadline.

***There is a new game update available on the website, dated 09/06/22 ***

Don’t forget, if you lose a player for 2 or more games, you can ask for an injury replacement, but it must be done the same week as the injury, so don’t wait, get those requests in right away and take advantage, especially the teams who are already challenged for the amount of games they have to work with.  Also, be sure you give me enough names as the more injuries the more likely someone else already grabbed the guy you want.

Reminder that you MUST send a boxscore and writeup to the league after each game.  The home team is responsible for this, but either team can do it, as long as it does get done.  Also, you MUST send me the game export immediately after the game is complete.  It takes about 30 seconds, so I shouldn’t have to chase you down for that file after a game, just get it in right away so I don’t have to guess whether a game has happened or not.

II. News from Around the League

In the AFC Chicago downs Dallas to move one game closer to the AFC #1 seed and Pittsburgh beats Indianapolis to hold on to the #4 seed for another week.  NY Jets win a wild one over Cleveland where the teams combine for 85 points and Denver gets a huge win over LA Chargers to stay in the conversation for #4.  Tennessee can’t take advantage of the Charger loss as they fall to San Francisco and into a 3 way tie for the final spot with the Titans and Bills.  Buffalo loses big to Arizona and LA Rams get a win over Atlanta.  Green Bay loses to Carolina and Minnesota takes a beating from Kansas City.

In the NFC Houston stays on top of the Central by shutting down Miami and New England stays a game back with a win over Tampa Bay. Kansas City gets their 12th win over Minnesota but are fighting for a home playoff game still and Carolina tops Green Bay.  Detroit beats NY Giants to stay on top of the East despite Jacksonville downing Seattle which knocks the Seahawks from the playoffs.  New Orleans doubles up Philadelphia and Arizona ? Buffalo.  Atlanta loses to LA Rams and have all but wrapped up the #1 overall lottery slot.

Coming up in the AFC Chicago will wrap up the #1 seed with a win over LA Rams or NY Jets loss to Arizona while the Jets have a small chance with a Bears loss.  LA Chargers are the #3 seed no matter what their result against Tampa Bay.  Pittsburgh is the #4 seed with a win over Detroit or a Denver loss to at Seattle, while Denver can move up with the opposite happening.  Indianapolis can move up to #5 with a win over Buffalo and Denver loss or fall into a possible 4 way tie for the #6 and #7 seeds with a loss.  Tennessee needs a win over Minnesota and some help and San Francisco needs to beat Dallas to lock up a playoff spot. Buffalo has an outside shot still but will need a win over Denver.  Cleveland and Green Bay play for draft position in the only matchup with no playoff implications.

Coming up in the NFC Houston takes the #1 seed with a win over New England but the Patriots can  win the Central with a win as they hold the tiebreaker head to head with a win and New Orleans can lock in the #2 seed with a win over Jacksonville (they lose the tiebreaker to New England if they move up).  Detroit needs a win over Pittsburgh to take the East or a loss by Jacksonville will do it too and Jacksonville needs to win and the Lions lose or they drop to the #7 seed.  Arizona can be the #5 seed with a win over NY Jets or Kansas City can take the spot with a win over at Miami.  Tampa Bay finishes up with LA Chargers and Carolina and Philadelphia will help determine lottery seeds.
