I. MESSAGE FROM THE COMMISSIONER

So the playoffs are here and once the holidays are over we will be ready to go and start the second season and crown a champion.  You can go ahead and play games now if you want, but I will be away til the weekend so I can’t do anything with my game til I return (as I will be driving in a moving truck the entire time).  So, enjoy the holidays and for those who are still alive, good luck in the playoffs!

The playoff matchups are all set and at this point the AFC has New England and Dallas both getting a bye (I will rest your players all for 1 week) and then Denver playoffs Houston and Pittsburgh plays NY Jets.  In the NFC NY Giants and Carolina both have byes while Philadelphia faces St. Louis and Jacksonville gets New Orleans.

Before everyone disappears I just want to thank you all for a great season and for sticking with things as we had a bit of a tough time this year.  I am searching for new owners already and have 2 ready to go and so far everyone currently with a team has said they are returning including our 4 new owners which is awesome to hear because I always hope someone new will like our league enough to stay.  I will be nominating players/coaches/GMs for awards this year and we will just make it a one round of voting as I would like to bring this back and make it easier on you guys, look for that after the holidays.  Also, start thinking about any rules changes you think we should discuss as I will start asking for those when we return from the holidays as well.  So Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all, see you back in a few days!

I am still looking for potential owners right now if you know anyone who is interested in the league, we need owners for Cleveland, Detroit, St. Louis and NY Jets and would like to fill these spots as soon as possible. Walt Sienzant is going to cover the games for Detroit for this coming season and Ed Minshull is going to cover the games for NY Jets for now as well.  Please try and be as flexible as possible when scheduling games with these two guys as they are playing twice as many games as the rest of us.

Game files can be found on the main page for the playoffs.  Please make sure you get started on game contacts next week, home teams should make contact by Wednesday and the game should be set up no later than Thursday of each week.

I can’t stress enough that you need to IMMEDIATELY send me your game export when the game is complete.  Send your write up later on, that’s fine, but I MUST have the game export as soon as the game ends or I’ll have to sim the game to keep things moving along if it is missing at the deadline.

***There is a new game update available on the website, dated 10/16/18 ***

Don’t forget, if you lose a player for 2 or more games, you can ask for an injury replacement, but it must be done the same week as the injury, so don’t wait, get those requests in right away and take advantage, especially the teams who are already challenged for the amount of games they have to work with.  Also, be sure you give me enough names as the more injuries the more likely someone else already grabbed the guy you want.

Reminder that you MUST send a boxscore and writeup to the league after each game.  The home team is responsible for this, but either team can do it, as long as it does get done.  Also, you MUST send me the game export immediately after the game is complete.  It takes about 30 seconds, so I shouldn’t have to chase you down for that file after a game, just get it in right away so I don’t have to guess whether a game has happened or not.

II. News from Around the League

This week in the AFC New England finishes the season with just 1 loss as they stop Houston who still wins the East while Pittsburgh tops Kansas City and punches their ticket to the playoffs.  Dallas drops Tennessee and it costs the Titans the playoffs as the New York Jets beat Jacksonville to knock them out.  Denver loses to Cleveland but with the Titans loss they get the tiebreaker and a trip to the post season as the #6 seed.  Indianapolis’ quest for a .500 season falls short by a point as San Francisco finishes the season with their second straight win and San Diego finishes strong as the down Minnesota.  Chicago falls to St. Louis and Buffalo wins big in Detroit.

This week in the NFC NY Giants lose their second game as they rest a ton of starters for the playoffs and Tampa Bay pulls the upset while Jacksonville falls to the NY Jets but still end up with a tough matchup against the Saints in round 1.  Carolina gets by Philadelphia to win the West and New Orleans beats Seattle but end up the #4 seed.  St. Louis gets a win over Chicago to finish the regular season on an up beat and Green Bay falls to Atlanta in the final week of the season.  Arizona leaves Miami winless on the season and Kansas City falls to the Steelers.  Detroit takes a tough loss to Buffalo to finish out the regular season schedule.

Coming up in the AFC the playoffs are here and the New England Patriots have earned a bye and home field through the conference championship.  Dallas has earn the other bye and a home game in round 2.  Denver just beat out Tennessee on a head to head tiebreaker to make it into the playoffs and will head to Houston for a wild card game.  Pittsburgh travels to NY Jets for the other wild card matchup and I think both games will be tight affairs with a lot of good football happening.

Coming up in the NFC the NY Giants have earned the top spot in the conference and a first round bye.  Carolina came on really strong after a slow start and have the other first round bye and a home game in round 2.  Philadelphia stays alive and gets into the playoffs despite some later season struggles due to usage and will face a similarly challenge St. Louis squad so this game should be interesting and come down to some serious coaching (need someone to sub for St. Louis please).  The other matchup is a daunting one for Jacksonville as they go to New Orleans who just missed a chance at their division and with a 12-4 record have a team that should give the Jags and other top teams in the conference a serious run.
