I. MESSAGE FROM THE COMMISSIONER

Congratulations to Roberto Tosco and the New York Jets on their second consecutive ISFL Super Bowl win.  Congrats also to Ed Minshull and the New Orleans Saints on getting to the big game and putting up a huge fight.  It's been a great season, capped off with a great game and I hope everyone really enjoyed it.

The draft lottery was done today and the big winners were the Philadelphia Eagles who move up to #1 and the Jacksonville Jaguars who move up to #2.  New England is #3 and the rest of the order stays the same (see the results email sent out earlier).

Just need one more teams vote and will announce these results. Ballot voting is open and all votes must be in by Sunday, January 30th at midnight eastern time. Any questions, let me know, here is the link in case you missed the email. http://www.kwiksurveys.com?s=IKJJLF_fc61c7bc

I can’t stress enough that need to IMMEDIATELY send me your game export when the game is complete.  This is the second straight week that a host had something come up and forget to send me an export.  It takes about 30 seconds following your game to export it and send it to me.  Send your write up later on, that’s fine, but I MUST have the game export as soon as the game ends or I’ll have to sim the game to keep things.

A new game update is available dated 12/14, please get it from the ISFL website before you play any games this week.

Don’t forget, if you lose a player for 2 or more games, you can ask for an injury replacement, but it must be done the same week as the injury, so don’t wait, get those requests in right away and take advantage, especially the teams who are already challenged for the amount of games they have to work with.

Reminder that you MUST send a boxscore and writeup to the league after each game.  The home team is responsible for this, but either team can do it, as long as it does get done.  Also, you MUST send me the game export immediately after the game is complete.  It takes about 30 seconds, so I shouldn’t have to chase you down for that file after a game, just get it in right away so I don’t have to guess whether a game has happened or not.

II. News from Around the League  (thanks to Ed Minshull for a great writeup)

Superbowl XIV

The upstart NO Saints with their 15-1 record took on the undefeated NY Jets on Friday night.  NO wins the coin toss and defers.  NYJ take the opening kick to the 34 and Michael Turner busts the first of many big plays in this game for 17 yards.  The Saints have a chance to stop the Jets but Brett Farve hits Braylon Edwards for 15 yards and a big first down.  Michael Turner rambles for a 16 yard TD and the Jets are rolling with an opening drive score.  Now it was the Saints turn and Romo is driving the team down field through the air.  4th and inches at the 38 of the Jets and NO coach Ed Minshull knows to win they need to score lots of points and goes for it.  Game crashes – should know it was a bad omen but still goes for the same play and the first bad call ends with Romo getting sacked.  The #1 league offense of the Jets are rolling again as their combination running of Michael Turner and Leonard Weaver combined with the great QB play of Brett Farve is unstoppable.  Quarter ends during the drive and 7-0 Jets for those who have a pool on t12 plays and 57 yards later Farve hits Weaver on coach Roberto Tosco’s audible and a 14-0 Jet lead.  Big drive needed for NO so they do not get blown out and they respond.  Tony Romo hits Chris Chambers on a 20 yard crossing pattern for a TD.  14-7 Jets.  But the Jets are not undefeated by luck.  They answer with another scoring drive, this time 9 plays 66 yards finished by another Turner TD run.  21-7 Jets  But NO answers getting to the 6 yard line but having to settle for a FG 21-10 at half.

The 2nd half kick with many of the fans not yet back in their seats has Jamaal Charles taking it to the house with a 95 yard KO return.  21-17 and the Saints are back in the game.  But the Saints have not stopped Roberto’s offense all day and this drive was no different.  The big play of the drive had Farve hitting Donald Driver for 32 yards.  The Jets 4th TD of the day was Farve to Weaver again.  28-17 Jets.  NO goes through the air to answer.  Mid season pick-up Muhsin Muhammad scores from a great pass by Romo. 28-24 Jets but the Saints are not going away.  But….. Farve to Edwards for a 50 yard TD puts the Jets 2 scores up.  5 TD drives in a row for a 35-24 lead.  But… NO turns to Charles and he carries the team on his back.  Romo hits Chambers for his 19th TD of the season.  35-31 in this donnybrook of a game.  Farve loves these types of games and shows off his MVP season with 2 long passes to Edwards and a 6th straight scoring drive as Brad Smith scores from the wildcat.  42-31 Jets midway through the 4th quarter.  Well finally the first punt of the game as the Jets defense holds.  The Jets make it 7 for 7 with another TD drive putting the game out of reach when Leon Washington gets the final score of the game 49-31.  We destroyed the over/under line on the game.  There was over 800 yards of offense, entertaining throughout, 80 points on the score board and only one meaningless turnover at the end.  Congratulations must go to Roberto for back to back Superbowl victories and an undefeated season.
