I. MESSAGE FROM THE COMMISSIONER

I’d like to say Super Bowl XXIX was a great one, but honestly it wasn’t not as close as the score showed and the Saints deserved this win right from the start. Love couldn’t get going and the Saints built a 17-0 lead which they never relinquished in this one. Congratulations to Ed, his team had a great season and deserved to win the big game the entire way. With this done, we are just finishing things up now, I am going to send out the preliminary ballot for discussion over the weekend and hopefully will get it posted when I get back after the Super Bowl Sunday night. I am going to leave awards voting open until next weekend as well and then hope to have a final newsletter our next Sunday night to close out the season. Thanks to all for a great season, hang in there another week as we finish all of this up.

If you are going to vote for Awards, please get them in asap so we can close things up there and this is also the final call for ballot props as I will be putting out a preliminary ballot shortly. I will be closing voting next Sunday, February 15^th. Thanks guys for another great season which is just about done.

Draft Lottery Results

Thanks to Hank and Dave for helping out and getting this run. The results are in and a small shake up in the top 7 with no one making a huge jump ups this year.

Original Order

Dave send Hank the random numbers and he matched them to the matrix and here are the final results. First ball out of the hopper was number 17 and this moved Minnesota up to the #1 overall pick. The next numbers out was 6, which moved Indianapolis up to #2 overall. The final number out was 34 and that jumped Houston to the #3 overall pick, setting the first round of this years draft pending the Super Bowl. I will get the full draft order out soon and post it to the website with traded picks.

Please make sure to get started on game contacts asap and don’t forget to CC me on all of them so I can make sure games are getting set up smoothly.  Let’s see if we can hit the first week deadline with all games played head to head and as always if you need help let us know.  If you need a sub, feel free to find your own sub or contact me asap so we can try and get you hooked up with someone to get your game in.  Make sure you have the latest action update which is available on the website.  Game files are up for the start of the regular season, so make sure you go download them and start making contact for round 1 games. If you have any questions, now is the time, so please ask before we get too far into things. 

I can’t stress enough that you need to IMMEDIATELY send me your game export when the game is complete.  Send your write up later on, that’s fine, but I MUST have the game export as soon as the game ends or I’ll have to sim the game to keep things moving along if it is missing at the deadline.

Reminder that you MUST send a boxscore and writeup to the league after each game.  The home team is responsible for this, but either team can do it, as long as it does get done.  Also, you MUST send me the game export immediately after the game is complete.  It takes about 30 seconds, so I shouldn’t have to chase you down for that file after a game, just get it in right away so I don’t have to guess whether a game has happened or not.

Super Bowl XXIX Results

Pittsburgh (23) vs New Orleans (27)

Russell Wilson leads New Orleans to their 3^rd Super Bowl win.

The Saints jump out to a 17-0 lead in the first half with a balanced attack on offense and stellar defensive effort.  After a holding penalty stalls the Saint opening drive the Steelers first drive gets to the 35-yard line.  A 4^th and 10 attempt gets 11 yards but a yellow flag for an illegal motion penalty makes Mark’ team punt.  Rehkow hit the coffin corner, and the Saints are starting at the 1-yard line.  A couple of Mason runs bring a 3^rd and 2 and Russell Wilson fakes the handoff and bootlegs around the end for 7 yards and a big first down.  That sets up 3 chunk plays to get the Saint past midfield.  Three Bigsby runs set up a Little 57-yard FG and the Saints strike first 3-0. 

Love starts off with an 18-yard pass to TE McBride but then the Saints defense holds the Steelers and Rehkow hit the coffin corner again.  This time at the 6-yard line.  Russell Wilson play fakes to Mason and throws his trademark rainbow pass the Jaxson Smith-Njigba for 25 yards. Mason takes a pitch on the next play for 13 yards then Bigsby sweeps right and breaks it for a 56-yard TD.  The Saints are rolling.  A holding penalty on the first play of the Steelers’ next drive leads to another punt.  New Orleans plays well with the lead and uses 8:08 off the clock and 13 play TD drive, highlighted by a 40-yard bomb from Wilson the Adams.  This combination is one of the best in ISFL history.  Mason's 1-yard TD on 4^th down makes it 17-0.  The Steelers try to take the last possession and the first in the 2^nd half to get back in the game, but disaster strikes when they use all their time outs and time runs out at the 9-yard line with no points.

The Steelers finally get on the score board with an 8 play TD drive that Jacobs runs right down the field and gets a 6-yard TD run to make it 17-7.  The Saints answer with another Little FG.  This time from 58 yards out.  Pittsburgh running attack is solid and Love hits Doubs for 37-yards but once again the Saints red zone defense holds the Steelers to an FG and its 20-10 with the 3^rd quarter about over.  Wilson is hot and he hits Bigsby as a secondary receiver for a 25-yard TD and the Saints can smell the win with a 3-score lead at 27-10.  But Love answers the call with an 8 play TD drive with about 10 minutes to go.  The Steel curtain makes the Saints punt, and Love gets the Steelers in the red zone again.  They try for a TD on 4^th and 10 in lieu of kicking an FG at the 16-yard line.  The game looks like it is over with less than 2 minutes remaining.  But LB Luvu strips Bigsby on the next play and takes it to the house.  Campbell blocks the extra point and it’s 27-23 with 1:44 left.  The Saints get the first down to run out the clock.

Bigsby got the game MVP.  Russell Wilson outplays Love going 16 for 21 with a TD.  The Saints out rush the Steelers 170 to 140 yards.  Total yards were 1 yard apart.  There were only 5 penalties and 1 turnover.
