I. MESSAGE FROM THE COMMISSIONER
Congratulations to the Super Bowl XXIV Champion Tennessee Titans and
Ashton Ewing, what a great season for this team and an even better
ending. Also a huge shout out to Ed Minshull who did everything but
defending his Super Bowl title in a very close game that went right down
to the end. Overall it was a very good season and I appreciate all of
the work you have all put in to make it so.
We are full up at 28 owners and hopefully we can stay that way
heading into the 2021 season.
The draft will be in early May as usual assuming the game is
released in April as it usually is. Trading will open up as soon as I
get the new game and produce game files for everyone to see so that we
can all work on a level playing field.
Enjoy the next couple of months break from the league and we will
see you all in the spring!
Thanks to all for getting the votes in and the
results are all set. 5 passed and 4 failed, details below. I will
update the constitution over the weekend to reflect the new changes.
If anyone sees anything in there that needs clarification or is
outdated, please let me know and I will fix that as well. FAILED
Awards voting is complete, thanks to the 23 teams who placed their votes,
it was a great turnout and I appreciate the help in adding to the depth
of the league. Here are the
results for this years awards.
ISFL MVP - Nick Chubb, MIN
(7 1st Place Votes)
Nick Chubb wins the closest
voting for all categories as he just edges out Kirk Cousins by one 1st
place vote (6) to take the league MVP. Rivers also had 6 first
place votes while McCaffrey had 2 and Wilson and Jackson each had a
single top vote to round out the top 6 for this award
The closest vote is
followed by the widest margin of vitory as Ashton win this one going
away as he has twice as many votes as Valentino (5) who finished tied
with Ed (4) for second place. Dean, Nino, Mary and Mark all had a
single first place vote as the voting was very spread out after the top
3.
Ashton pulls off the double
but this was a much closer vote as he only edges Valentino by a single
first place vote and Jeff Shelton (4) doesn't finish too far back in
third place. Dean finished with 3, while Ed and Mark each had a
pair and Marty finished up with a top vote as well.
Nick Chubb led the league
in rushing by a lot this season and claims the offensive player of the
year in the AFC in a close vote over Kirk Cousins who also had 8 first
place votes. The difference was Chubb was just on more ballots
than Cousins and outlasted him for the win. McCaffrey (3) just
squeaks by Rivers (4) for the third spot with more second place votes
and no one else received a first place nod those the others did all get
at least 1 vote.
Donald is the back to back
winner of this award as he has 3 times as many first placed votes as
second place Richard Sherman (2) and third place Tyron Mathieu (2).
Bobby Wagner and Chris Jones also receive a pair of first place votes,
Chandler Jones has three and Za'Darius Smith and Danielle Hunter each
get a single as things were very spread out after the top spot for this
award.
Russell Wilson also repeats
as an award winner as he gets twice as many first place votes as Derek
Henry who finished a distant second place. Lamar Jackson and Kyler
Murray each received 3 first lace votes and Cooper Kupp had a pair to
round out the top finishers for this award.
In the tightest race that
was won by just 2 overall points, Cameron Jordan edges out Joey Bosa (8)
for the defensive player of the year in the NFC. Justin Simmons
(3) finishes a very distant third place and Calaise Campbell and Shaq
Barrett each had a single top nod though the top two guys basically
fought it out to the final ballot without much other competition.
When you are the rookie QB
of a 14-2 team this one becomes a no brainer but Josh Jacobs (8) didn't
let him run away with the award as the two of them shared most of the
love for this award. DK Metcalf finished third and had a pair of
first place votes and David Montgomery received the other top vote in
what was really a two man race.
This race was close for a
while and Maxx Crosby (6) actually was a head for about half of the
voting but Bosa pulled away late to win this award for Seattle.
Josh Allen (1) edges out Devin Bush (2) by being on more overall ballots
and Devin White and Dexter Lawrence each get a single first place nod.
I can’t stress enough that you need to IMMEDIATELY send me your game
export when the game is complete.
Send your write up later on, that’s fine, but I MUST have the
game export as soon as the game ends or I’ll have to sim the game to
keep things moving along if it is missing at the deadline.
Don’t forget, if you lose a player for 2 or more games, you can ask for
an injury replacement, but it must be done the same week as the injury,
so don’t wait, get those requests in right away and take advantage,
especially the teams who are already challenged for the amount of games
they have to work with.
Also, be sure you give me enough names as the more injuries the more
likely someone else already grabbed the guy you want.
Reminder that you MUST send a boxscore and writeup to the league after
each game. The home team is
responsible for this, but either team can do it, as long as it does get
done. Also, you MUST send me
the game export immediately after the game is complete.
It takes about 30 seconds, so I shouldn’t have to chase you down
for that file after a game, just get it in right away so I don’t have to
guess whether a game has happened or not.

II. News from Around the League
The site is Hard Rock Stadium. Vegas has the line
at Even on the neutral field. NFC Champion, and defending SuperBowl
XXIII champion, New Orleans Saints versus the 2nd time AFC Champion
Tennessee Titans. Titans have only made the big game one time (ISFL SB
XIX), and suffered a disappointing 30-23 loss to the Detroit Lions five
years ago. The two teams met up in the regular season in Week 4, with
the host Titans edging out a 16-9 win.
And, now the game....
Saints win the coin toss and choose to defer. So
Titans get the ball first.
After the touchback, Titans run first down and
immediately are flagged for a personal foul and marched backward 13
yards before anyone has broken a sweat. Titans don't recover and forced
to punt after only picking up 17 of the 23 yards needed for the first
down. Saints go on a 6-play drive that ends on the Titans' 36 yard line.
On comes Justin Tucker for the 50-yd FG and he makes it look easy.
Saints 3, Titans 0
Titans start next drive on the 25. After a 14-play
drives stalls out at the Saints' 7 yard line, Jason Sanders ties the
game with a 25 yard FG.
Game tied 3-3
On the next drive, Russell Wilson hits Devonte
Adams but Adams fumbles the ball away and Titans recover. Big break for
the Titans.
Then comes the instant replay and Adams was shown
to be down by contact prior to being stripped. 1st down Saints. That was
a huge swing on the replay, as the Saints go on to finish a 10-play
drive after that with a score. Wilson beats the blitz and hits TE Hooper
on a 5 yd slant. PAT is good.
Saints 10, Titans 3
Titans answer with their own 75 yard drive. With NO
looking for a Jones run, Rivers surprises with a TD pass to WR Sterling
Shepard. PAT good.
Game tied 10-10.
Saints answer the Titans' answer with another 75
yard TD drive. This time, Kenyan Drake takes a 1st down handoff and
rumbles in from 5 yards out. PAT good.
Saints 17, Titans 10
Titans take ball and try to make something before
the half but stall out around midfield and half ends there.
Halftime score
Saints 17
Titans 10
Saints get 2nd half kickoff. They go on a drive
that moves the ball easily until they get to the redzone. Titans defense
tightens up at goalline and Saints stall out at the Titans 2. Tucker
comes on for the FG. This proves to be the only score of the 3rd
quarter.
Saints 20, Titans 10
The next 3 drives of the game end in punts by
Titans, Saints, Titans. The last of which gave the Saints great field
position at the Titans 48 after a 35-yd Pinion punt from deep in Titans'
territory, and a 14 yard return.
Saints start with 2:22 left in 3Q and at Titans 48.
It takes 8 plays, and runs into the 4Q, but Saints RB Philip LIndsay
plunges in from 1 yard out to give the Saints what appears to be a
commanding lead. PAT good.
Saints 27, Titans 10
It was during that Saints' drive that the game put
the notice in the Play by Play box, "New Orleans can smell the
championship"
On the kickoff, KR Dontrell HIlliard takes the ball
from 3 yards deep, makes a cut and almost breaks it for the TD but
tackled at the 40. Titans can't do much afterward, and are forced to
punt back to the Saints.
Saints go a quick 3 and out and punt to Titans.
Titans take ball with 7:36 left in the game, down
by 17 points, and go with 3 WR sets. Six straight passes later, Philip
Rivers hits WR Michael Gallup for the 21 yd TD strike. Now 6:19 left in
the game. PAT good.
Saints 27, Titans 17
Saints once again go 3 and out on 3 straight runs
and are forced to punt back to the Titans.
With 3:49 remaining, Titans once again put it on
Rivers' shoulders and call 8 straight pass plays. The last one being a
14 yd TD pass to Jarvis Landry. PAT good.
Saints 27, Titans 24
Saints next drive saw Drake stuffed for no gain on
1st down. Wilson couldn't connect with Adams on 2nd down. And on 3rd and
10, Wilson does connect with Adams for a gain of 9. On 4th and 1 from
their own 34, Saints punt back on their third consecutive 3 and out. A
45 yard punt with an 11 yard return.
Titans start next drive on own 32 yard line with
2:04 remaining.
Rivers hits Shepard for 16 on first down and that
sees the 2 minute warning. The next three plays were all incomplete
passes and brings up a crucial 4th and 10. Rivers slides back in the
pocket with good protection, and finds the reliable Landry on the
crossing route for 12 yards and a 1st down. With Saints rolling a double
on Shepard, Rivers hits TE Tyler Higbee for a gain of 7. Saints in a 3-1
quarter pass defense so Titans run Jones on a Trap right for 7 more and
a first down. This was the Titans only called run play in the last 3
drives which totaled 24 plays.
Now with :40 left on clock, Titans coaches are
debating taking the safe route and play for a FG or push the envelope a
bit and try to win it. Minutes ago, the staff had their heads hanging
while down by 17 and thinking it was almost sealed. With players getting
tired, it's decided to win or lose it here. Rivers hits Shepard on the
out pattern for a 12 yard gain and is pushed out of bounds, stopping the
clock. Next play was an incomplete screen pass, which was dropped by the
normally reliable RB Aaron Jones. On 2nd and 10 with :29 on the clock,
Rivers hits Shepard on the sideline, he slips a tackle from OLB Anthony
Barr, and runs into the endzone with :20 left on the clock, putting the
Titans ahead. The very important PAT is dead center.
Titans 31, Saints 27
Saints are able to run 3 more plays. An incomplete
pass to Adams. Then Wilson takes a keeper for a 17 yard gain, bringing
the Saints to their own 42 and :04 left on the clock. The bomb falls
incomplete and it's ballgame.
Thanks to Ed for easy scheduling and as always,
being fun to play a game with.
DK MVP was Titans QB Philip Rivers who was 33-53
passing, 348 yards and 4 TD's, including 3 in the 4Q for the huge
comeback victory. Titans also had all top 3 WR's with at least 94 yards
receiving. Their lines were Shepard 9/104/2; Landry 9/94/1; Gallup
8/102/1.
Saints WR Adams caught 9 balls for 97 yards and
seemed to have his way with top Titans' CB Chidobe Awuzie most of the
day. RB Kenyon Drake was effective for NO with 89 yards and a TD on 18
carries.
Saints were very hard to stop at times and
converted on 7 of 13 3rd down attempts in the game. Coach Ewing
commented during the game that it was the worst 3rd down defense the
Titans have shown all year. Credit should go to the Saints and their
winning Coach Minshull for that.
Titans held a slight advantage on total yardage
with 383 vs 356 yards and first downs with 30 vs Saints' 25.
Saints ran a balanced attack which was overall
pretty effective and kept the Titans guessing, and guessing wrongly,
alot. Titans had to abandon the run and throw more than we have all year
due to the Saints jumping on top of us.
Great year by all. I thought the season ran very
smoothly this year and am thankful for all of our quality owners. Gonna
take a few days off, then move onto the draft! :) * Championship * 02-13-2021 Hard Rock Stadium Temp:75 Wind:0-5 None No Line MVP:Rivers
