MESSAGE FROM THE COMMISSIONER
No
surprises in the offseason so far as all 4 top seeds win their games
including New England who rolls over Pittsburgh.
Giants win a close one of the Saints, Carolina struggles a bit
versus the Rams and Dallas wins convincingly over Houston to set up the
final 4. AFC Championship
game is Dallas at New England while the NFC Championship game matches up
Carolina at the NY Giants.
Well
so far a good offseason as I have already filled the 4 teams that were
league owned for most or all of this past season.
Hopefully we will stay full up through the offseason but at least
for now we have 28 owners and we are ready to move to the offseason when
the playoffs are finished. Here are the new owners and their contact
info:
Cleveland Browns – Mike Harvath -
bceconguy@yahoo.com
I
will be nominating players/coaches/GMs for awards this year and we will
just make it a one round of voting as I would like to bring this back
and make it easier on you guys, look for this to be coming very soon (ie
this weekend). Also planning on getting working on the lottery and draft
order so we can run the lottery just before the Super Bowl at the end of
the month.
I
will be taking any rules changes you think we should discuss over the
next couple of weeks. Please, well thought out ideas only, I don’t want
a long discussion that just goes nowhere over the list, so please, if
you have a good idea, flesh it out and then feel free to share it either
with me or to the list in general if you want opinions.
I will take these until Sunday, January 20th after
which I will put together a ballot for everyone to vote on.
I am
still looking for potential owners right now if you know anyone who is
interested in the league as I would like to have someone waiting in the
wings should a team or two open up during the offseason.
Game
files can be found on the main page for the playoffs.
Please make sure you get started on game contacts asap, home
teams should make contact by Wednesday and the game should be set up no
later than Thursday of each week.
I
can’t stress enough that you need to IMMEDIATELY send me your game
export when the game is complete.
Send your write up later on, that’s fine, but I MUST have the
game export as soon as the game ends or I’ll have to sim the game to
keep things moving along if it is missing at the deadline.
Don’t
forget, if you lose a player for 2 or more games, you can ask for an
injury replacement, but it must be done the same week as the injury, so
don’t wait, get those requests in right away and take advantage,
especially the teams who are already challenged for the amount of games
they have to work with.
Also, be sure you give me enough names as the more injuries the more
likely someone else already grabbed the guy you want.
Reminder that you MUST send a boxscore and writeup to the league after
each game. The home team is
responsible for this, but either team can do it, as long as it does get
done. Also, you MUST send me
the game export immediately after the game is complete.
It takes about 30 seconds, so I shouldn’t have to chase you down
for that file after a game, just get it in right away so I don’t have to
guess whether a game has happened or not.

News from Around the League
A much closer game than expected through the first
3 quarters as we really keep things close with the best team in the
conference. After a scoreless first quarter, NE starts things off with a
FG early in the second quarter and the Steelers strike back with a 11
play, 72 yard drive that ends with a 3 yard Watson to Kearse TD pass
with just under 4 minutes to play. The Steelers defense falters though
and the Patriots take 3 minutes to march down the field with their own
11 play, 75 yard drive that finishes off with a Gurley 6 yard TD run and
a 10-7 halftime lead.
AFC Divisional Round Game –
HOU (13) at DAL (27)
Dallas has this game well
in control throughout including 3 Interceptions and a solid game from
Brees and the Cowboys move on to the AFC Championship game.
NFC Divisional Round Game -
NO (20) at NYG (26)
The NY Giants, hosting
their first playoff game since the Nixon administration, come out fired
up…and find themselves down 14-0 after a quarter, as the Saints get
rushing TD’s from Russell Wilson and Kenyan Drake.
Early in the 2nd
quarter, Kareem Hunt draws them within 7 when he rumbles through the
Saints line for a 22 yard tally.
Next up, our MVP ( I know
that sounds absurd, but trust me) Stephen Gostkowski hits a 62-yard
field goal to bring the Giants to within 4. Must be his 4th
or 5th 60+ yarder of the year.
After the Saints’ Justin
Tucker restores their 7 point lead at halftime, Jared Goff suddenly
wakes up from his early game slumber and hits DeAndre Hopkins with a
9-yard TD pass and the game is tied at the end of 3.
Justin Tucker says “screw
you” to Gostkowski and hits a long one of his own, 53 yards, early in
the 4th quarter to give the Saints the lead once more. After
a couple of punts, the Giants put together one of their most important
drives of the season, as it is the “Goff to Hopkins” show, culminating
with an 8-yard score to give the Giants the lead for the first time in
the game with just under 4 minutes to go.
The Saints, seemingly in
trouble, pull out a little magic, converting on 4th and 13 at
the two-minute warning to stay alive, but their next attempt at a 4th
down conversion ended with an Arik Armstead sack, giving the Giants the
ball back. The Giants play ultra-conservative and bleed the Saints of
timeouts and punt the ball back to them with just 30 seconds remaining.
After a few miracle attempts, Dion Jordan sacks Wilson in the end zone
for a safety, to end the game at 26-20.
Giants move on to the NFC
Championship game while the Saints prepare for the draft, and next year,
when they are going to be a bit of a problem for their opponents.
NFC Divisional Round Game –
CAR (17) at STL (8)
Carolina barely gets by a
well-coached Rams team in heavy fatigue Tuesday night. Derek Carr is
sacked 7 times and completely shut down for most of the game, and a
missed FG from short range early on by the Rams ends up being critical.
St. Louis was in a position
to tie in the 4th after a late rushing TD by LeGarette Blount (12-87-1),
but the 2-point try was not converted.
Many thanks to Hank for
subbing in,
Coming up in the AFC the Championship game comes down to the two best
teams as New England has been the team to beat all year while Dallas
started slow but has been rolling from midseason until the end.
While both teams can play some good offense the question in this
game will be can the Cowboys offense do what they have all year when
confronted with the incredible defense of the Patriots who give up just
10 pts per game.
Coming up in the NFC the Championship game also matches up the top two
teams in the conference who took similar paths as the Giants rolled
through the season almost 500 points of offense and the Panthers started
just 1-3 and then rolled through 12 straight wins to the #2 seed in the
conference. This game should
be a toss up as both have big offenses and similar defenses and may just
be home field that makes the difference.
