I. MESSAGE
FROM THE COMMISSIONER
The
Championship games were very different as in the AFC Indianapolis pulls away
early and hangs on despite a couple of late TDs from Tennessee to move on to
their 4th Super Bowl. In the NFC Detroit gets down 14-3 and then
comes back to win a tight game late as they shut down David Carr who had
possibly the worst playoff performance of any QB the ISFL has even seen.
The Super Bowl is going to be a good one as we have a pair of teams who are
looking for their third ever Super Bowl win (and to join Dallas and the NY Jets
as the only teams to do so). We have the defending champion Colts and Aaron
Rogers looking to repeat this year in their third straight shot at the bit game
and then we have the prior champion Detroit Lions and Ben Roethlisberger who are
looking to get back on top after a tough regular season though it pays to get
hot at the right time of the season.
Two pretty good offenses against a pair of solid defenses, who knows what kind
of game we will see but it should be very competitive and a fun one for both
coaches to be in. Good luck to you
both!
I am looking
for potential owners right now if you know anyone who is interested in the
league, I need an owner in Dallas at least and would like some names to get
ready in case we have more openings after the season.
Game files are located on the website for the final regular season files.
Please make sure you get started on game contacts asap, home teams should
make contact by Wednesday and the game should be set up no later than Thursday
of each week.
I can’t
stress enough that you need to IMMEDIATELY send me your game export when the
game is complete. Send your write up
later on, that’s fine, but I MUST have the game export as soon as the game ends
or I’ll have to sim the game to keep things moving along if it is missing at the
deadline.
***There is a new game update available on the website, dated
1/17/18 ***
Don’t forget,
if you lose a player for 2 or more games, you can ask for an injury replacement,
but it must be done the same week as the injury, so don’t wait, get those
requests in right away and take advantage, especially the teams who are already
challenged for the amount of games they have to work with.
Also, be sure you give me enough names as the more injuries the more
likely someone else already grabbed the guy you want.
Reminder that
you MUST send a boxscore and writeup to the league after each game.
The home team is responsible for this, but either team can do it, as long
as it does get done. Also, you MUST
send me the game export immediately after the game is complete.
It takes about 30 seconds, so I shouldn’t have to chase you down for that
file after a game, just get it in right away so I don’t have to guess whether a
game has happened or not.

II. News from
Around the League
Indianapolis – 31 vs Tennesee Titans –
20
Indy moves on to their
third SB in four years (4th overall) after comfortably defeating visiting
Tennessee 31 - 20. Tennessee added couple of TD's in the fourth quarter
after Indy went up by 31-7 at the beginning of fourth quarter. MVP of the game
was Billal Powell, who rushed for 105 yards on 11 carries and 1 TD. Rodgers like
previous game was comfortable taking the backseat to Indy's running game and
defense. Jarvis Landry led Titans with 162 yards on 16 receptions.
The game started on a good
note for Indy, as the offense marched 65 yards on the first drive, but Titans
defense forced an incompletion on 3rd down at their own 21 yard line forcing
Indy to settle for a field goal. Both teams exchanged punts on the next three
possessions, with Indy losing 31 yards on one of those drives. Indy got the ball
back beginning of 2nd quarter, but on the first play Wendell Smallwood gained 4
yards and was looking to gain more, but Avery Williamson forced an fumble to
give great field position for Tennessee offense. Rivers took advantage of the
short field and found Landry for 17 yard TD, putting Tennessee ahead by 4. Indy
had to punt on next possession after Rodgers was sacked on 3rd down by Golden.
Last five offensive plays for Indy were three sacks, 9 yards loss on reverse and
one fumble. To make matters worse Indy RT Bulaga had to leave and was designated
Questionable.
Indy defense decides to
take the game in its own hands and forces a 3 and out. Indy gets the ball back
with 6:47 remaining in 2nd quarter. Rodgers mounts an 11 play 67 yard drive and
Powell caps its of with a 5 yard TD, putting Indy up by 3. Tennessee with minute
left before halftime tried to get a FG, but Indy defense didn't give much. Score
at halftime 10-7 Indy.
Tennessee got the ball back
after halftime, after gaining an first down on the ensuing play Rivers was
picked off by Webb, giving Indy offense a great field position. Indy takes five
plays to go up by 10 points as Rodgers finds Ginn for a 4 yard TD. Tennessee
gets the ball and drives all the way to Indy 34 yard line, but on 3rd and 5,
Griffen sacks Rivers for 10 yard loss and pushes Tennessee out of the field goal
range. On the next possession Indy goes 80 yards on 9 plays and the drive is
capped off by 15 yard TD pass from Rodgers to Sanu, to put Indy up by 17 points.
Disaster stuck Tennessee on
the ensuing possession as Rivers was sacked by Floyd at Indy 35, Floyd then
recovers the fumble returns it for 60 yard TD to make it 31-7 Indy. With the
cushion of 24 points and 11 minutes left in the 4th quarter, Indy goes into
prevent mode. Tennessee adds couple of TD's on long drives to make it 31-20 in
the end.
Detroit Lions – 20 vs Carolina Panthers – 17
Detroit rallies from an early 14-3 deficit and stuns Carolina on the road
Sunday morning to advance to Superbowl XX. Big plays from the defense and
special teams for both sides were prevalent throughout, but the decisive factor
was the performance of the Lions' secondary against Derek Carr, who was
intercepted 3 times and held to a 25.6 passer rating, and Antonio Brown,
targeted 17 times and catching 4.
Veteran Lions CB Terence
Newman was one of many Detroit standouts on defense, covering Brown in man for
most of the game and shutting down the focal point of Carolina's offense in
doing so.
One of the most exciting
games ever played at Ericsson Stadium ends as the clock runs out on Carr's last
drive into Lions' territory:
Opp 29
0:25 left in the 4th
Carr in the shotgun
Motion

Congratulations Dave, well
called! Your coaching kept things close enough for somebody to step up and make
a play at the end.
