MESSAGE FROM THE COMMISSIONER
Back
on schedule and all games in early, thanks to all for the hard work and
for a bunch of good games. A
big upset headlines this round of games as the high flying Carolina
Panthers take it to New Orleans and knock the top seeded Saints from the
playoffs. The other three
home teams hold serve in very good, tight games including an OT comeback
win for Dallas who scored 18 points in the 4th quarter and OT
to sneak past the pesky Bills.
Seattle and Indianapolis both win and have home field for the
conference championships.
Game files are located on the website for the third round of the
playoffs, please get the files and go ahead and get your games set up
though there is plenty of time to get the games in as they are due
Monday, January 23rd at 10 pm eastern.
I am
now accepting ballot props per the separate email I have sent out, feel
free to discuss anything you would like over the list and then provide
me with fully fleshed out proposals by Sunday, January 22nd so I can do
a preliminary ballot and we can try and have voting complete by the end
of the playoffs. Remember as always, if you do not plan to return next
season I would ask that you please refrain from the ballot discussion.
Thanks.
Also accepting awards nominations now,
please head over to the survey and help out if you have some time.
These are not mandatory (the final vote is though) but if you
want to be a part of it, feel free to register your nominations -
https://kwiksurveys.com/s/sifz2C22
I
can’t stress enough that you need to IMMEDIATELY send me your game
export when the game is complete.
Send your write up later on, that’s fine, but I MUST have the
game export as soon as the game ends or I’ll have to sim the game to
keep things moving along if it is missing at the deadline.
Don’t
forget, if you lose a player for 2 or more games, you can ask for an
injury replacement, but it must be done the same week as the injury, so
don’t wait, get those requests in right away and take advantage,
especially the teams who are already challenged for the amount of games
they have to work with.
Also, be sure you give me enough names as the more injuries the more
likely someone else already grabbed the guy you want.
Reminder that you MUST send a boxscore and writeup to the league after
each game. The home team is
responsible for this, but either team can do it, as long as it does get
done. Also, you MUST send me
the game export immediately after the game is complete.
It takes about 30 seconds, so I shouldn’t have to chase you down
for that file after a game, just get it in right away so I don’t have to
guess whether a game has happened or not.

News from Around the League
In
the AFC Indianapolis holds serve over a tough Tennessee club and Dallas
comes back from 21-6 down in the 4th quarter to win with a FG
in OT and move on to the conference championship.
Indy moves to their 3rd AFC
championship game in 5 years after a comfortable 33-20 victory over a
strong visiting Tennessee team. Final score made it look like an easy
one, but game was really close at 16-13 going into half time, with TEN
due to get the the ball in second half. Indy running game was the key in
this match up, led by Alfred Blue, who ran for 149 yards on 22 carries.
Rodgers chipped in with 3 TD's.
Both the defenses couldn't
do much in the first half, as both offenses marched up and down the
field. In the second half after Tennessee punted the ball back to Indy
on the first drive, Indy offense marched down on a 9 play 86 yards drive
too make score 23-13. TEN fumbled the ball on the ensuing kickoff, after
which Indy added a field goal to make it 26-13. With the game slowly
moving away, TEN became one dimensional, which helped Indy's defense.
Indy scored one more TD, after TEN failed to convert a 4th down on its
own 27 yard line, to put the game away. Clemens hit Torrey Smith in the
closing minutes to make the score 33-20.
For TEN, Rivers threw for
262 yards and 1TD, while Polk ran for 54 yards on 10 carries. Torrey
Smith and Jordan Matthews, led TEN in yards and receptions.
-----
Cowboys win in OT behind a stout running game and a tremendous
performance by Shady McCoy, coming from 15 points down at the start of
the 4th quarter to win. The downside is the Boys lost QB Drew Brees for
next week late in the game and will have to try to defeat a tough
Indianapolis squad with vet Matt Cassel at the controls. A great
gameplan by Bob Ashley. He kept me off balance all day long. Bob always
seems to get the most out of his teams, and today was no exception. -----
Shan brings his high flying
Carolina offense to New Orleans for a playoff battle. They didn't
disappoint as Carr starts off with a 59 yard TD to Brown for the first
score. Russell Wilson answers with a 41 yard TD pass to Eric
Decker. Carolina rolls the dice on the next possession going for
it on 4th and inches but Amerson breaks up the long attempt to Brown.
New Orleans takes the short field and Wilson runs it up the middle on
3rd down for 20 yards to the 2 yard line. Williams scores on the
next play for a 14-7 Saints lead. Carolina offense is use to high
scoring games and Carr takes the team right down the field and McKinney
runs it in to tie the score. Carolina's defense has trouble
stopping the Saints and 5 plays later NO scores but misses the extra
point. 20-14 in the first quarter!
Carolina scores again to
start the 2nd quarter and is successful with an onside kick and puts it
in the house again to take a 28-20 lead. Good for Carolina to get
that extra possession. The Saint come right back with another TD
(The 8th of the game in the first half). Carolina would probably
have scored another TD again but time runs out and they miss a 54 yard
FG to end the half up 28-27.
The Saints take the second
half kick but their drive stalls at the 15 yard line and they take a FG
and the lead. But Carr hits Brown for his 4th TD of the game to
take the lead right back at 35-30. You start to wonder how big
that missed extra point will decide tactics. Defense finally comes into
the game as both teams have to punt and we are in the 4th quarter.
Russell Wilson hits Eric
Decker for a 40 yard TD and the Saints retake the lead 36-35. They
elect to go for 1 and a 37-35 lead with over 10 minute remaining in the
game. A mistake as Shan orchestrates an over 8 minute drive.
New Orleans elects to let them score a TD with 1 minute 42 seconds and
will take their chances on the last drive of the game. Time runs
out on the Saints season as they can't get it done and fall 42-37.
Great came by Shan and his Carolina boys.
Carr throws for 398 yards a
4 TD's. Antonio Brown hauls in 15 of 17 passes for 220 yards and 4
TD's
Wilson throws for 367 yards
and 4 TD's. Crabtree hauls in 11 of 11 attempts for 168 yards and
2 TD's.
The QB's combined 52/71 8
TD's, 785 yards and 0 interceptions. Interesting that Eric Decker
for some reason went to major fatigue after his 1st TD pass. Not
that it made a difference as he caught 3 of 5 targets and 2TD's.
------
St. Louis comes to Sea and both teams combine for a shootout. St.
Louis has 321 yards passing with 59 yards rushing whereas Seahawks get
355 yards passing with 96 yards rushing. The difference in the game was
key turnover as St. Louis was driving and giving up 5 sacks. St. Louis
got 2 sacks but they came at the end of the game and pass rush wasn't
really a factor.
------
Coming up in the NFC we have the Carolina Panthers with their incredible
offense of 547 points in the regular season and Seattle with 501 points
of their own ready to match up.
This track meet could end up with over 800 points and the
difference may well be Seattle’s #3 ranked defense that allows under 280
yards per game. Carolina
will need every point they can get to pull off another upset while
Seattle is fighting for their first Super Bowl appearance.
