I. MESSAGE FROM THE COMMISSIONER

Congratulations to the Indianapolis Colts and Sri Gullapalli on his first Super Bowl win.  Despite losing Aaron Rodgers for part of the season, the Colts still take it all the way and win the big game.  Great season also for Jeff Barricelli and the Philadelphia Eagles who took this one all the way down to the wire and gave the Colts all they could handle.  The season is now over and we take a month or so off while we wait on the new game to be released.  Once I know for sure when this will happen I will publish an offseason schedule with some exact dates and we can start working on next season.  For now, enjoy and thanks once again to all of you for another great season and look forward to the next already.  There are updated files for the end of the season on the website main page.

I can’t stress enough that you need to IMMEDIATELY send me your game export when the game is complete.  Send your write up later on, that’s fine, but I MUST have the game export as soon as the game ends or I’ll have to sim the game to keep things moving along if it is missing at the deadline.

***There is a new game update available on the website, dated 10/10/14 ***

Don’t forget, if you lose a player for 2 or more games, you can ask for an injury replacement, but it must be done the same week as the injury, so don’t wait, get those requests in right away and take advantage, especially the teams who are already challenged for the amount of games they have to work with.  Also, be sure you give me enough names as the more injuries the more likely someone else already grabbed the guy you want.

Reminder that you MUST send a boxscore and writeup to the league after each game.  The home team is responsible for this, but either team can do it, as long as it does get done.  Also, you MUST send me the game export immediately after the game is complete.  It takes about 30 seconds, so I shouldn’t have to chase you down for that file after a game, just get it in right away so I don’t have to guess whether a game has happened or not.

Super Bowl Summary

The Indianapolis Colts capped off a great season with a 24 to 21 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles to capture their first Super Bowl title.  The game was tight throughout and featured what had to be one of the best endings in ISFL Super Bowl history.

The Colts got on the board first when their second drive of the game went 80 yards on 15 plays ending with a John Kuhn 4 yard touchdown run.  The Eagles tied the game with 5 minutes left in the half engineering their own 13 play, 83 yard drive that ended with a 4 yard Alfred Morris run tying the game at 7.  The Eagles got the ball back at their own 42 yard line with 49 seconds left.  They moved the ball down to the Colts' 29 yard line where Nick Folk missed a crucial 47 yard field goal as time expired in the half.  The game remained tied at 7 at halftime.

The Eagles got the opening kickoff in the second half and it didn't take long for Peyton Manning to find Vincent Jackson for a 32 yard touchdown to give the Eagles a 14 to 7 lead.  The two teams traded punts before Indianapolis ripped off a 12 play, 87 yard drive that ended with a John Kuhn 1 yard TD run to tie the game at 14 with 12:07 remaining in the game.

The Indy defense forced Philly to punt on their next possession.  The Colts took over at their own 23 yard line with 8:22 remaining.  From there they engineered a long drive that finished with a Matt Prater 43 yard field goal with 2:18 remaining giving the Colts a 17 to 14 lead.

Following the kickoff, the Eagles started at their own 27 yard line with 2:11 remaining.  On the first play, Jarrett Boykin broke a medium slant pass for a 70 yard gain, all the way down to the Colts three yard line as the two minute warning hit.  On the next play Alfred Morris ran in for a touchdown and a 21 to 17 lead with 1:51 remaining.

The Colts drive started at their own 23 yard line with 1:45 remaining and 2 timeouts.  Aaron Rodgers moved the ball down the field with precision.  Finally, with 23 seconds left Rodgers hit Mohammed Sanu from 10 yards out for the game winning score.

Rodgers takes home game MVP honors completing 23 of 32 passes for 215 yards and 1TD.  There were no turnovers in the game for either team.  The Eagles outgained the Colts 357 to 334 but the Colts dominated time of possession 34 minutes to 26 minutes.

ISFL Ballot Results

* 1. Prop #1 - Minimum Usage for Skill Positions

The league will impose a minimum usage level for pass attempts, rushing
attempts and pass catches for each team.

Pass Attempts - 300 minimum per team (includes anyone with a pass attempt)
Rush Attempts - 250 minimum per team (includes anyone with a rush attempt)
Pass Catches - 175 minimum per team (includes anyone with a catch)

YES     - 18

NO      -  7

ABSTAIN -  3

With a late surge of yes votes, this prop passes and teams will need to make sure they take this into account when making cuts, trades and drafting this offseason.

* 2. Prop #2 - Reduce the minimum Usage Limits for PR/KR

KR - 10+ KR - unlimited, 5-10 KR, <22 ypr, <50 yard long, no TDs - unlimited
PR - 10+ PR - unlimited, 5-10 PR, <8 ypr, <30 yard long, no TDs - unlimited

With this change we go from 34 unlimited PRs from last years game to 44 unlimited PRs.
For KRs we go from 15 unlimited KRs from last years game to 50 Unlimited KRs.

Yes     - 23

No      -  0

Abstain -  5

This one passes easily, though a lot of abstentions, but zero no votes, so I will adjust it for the upcoming season.

* 3. Prop #3 - Set Home Field Advantage to 3 Points for Every Team

Currently the league uses the home field advantage listed in the game for each stadium. This change would universally set all stadiums to 3 for the entire season.

YES     - 23

NO      -  4

ABSTAIN -  1

This one got a lot more support than I expected and likely someone will have to remind me to make the changes before the season starts as I will have to manually adjust each stadium.

* 4. Prop #4 - Players on Season Ending IR in NFL ineligible for ISFL playoffs

If a player is was put on season ending IR in the NFL and would not have been eligible to play in the NFL playoffs that player would also be ineligible for the ISFL playoffs and would be set to inactive before the start of the ISFL playoffs. Each team will need to report to the commissioner their list of players who need to be set to inactive for the playoffs after the conclusion of week 17 of the regular season and it is up to the teams opponents to double check and make sure this is correct. If a player slips through the cracks there is no protest to be made and the result stands and this should be an incentive for opponents to look closely at this.

YES     -  8

NO      - 18

ABSTAIN -  2

Not a lot of support here adn this one was set aside pretty easily, so there is no change to usage for injured players for next seasons playoffs.

* 5. Prop #5 - Replace Weekly Injury Pickups with a 5 man practice Squad

Instead of the currently weekly injury pickups that we have no which would be no longer in use, each team would select a five man practice squad following the regular drafts conclusion. The players would be active for use during the season and up to each team which 5 positions they choose to cover. After the regular draft, a 5 round practice squad draft would be run that would be done through draft lists where teams could designate postions and they would be awarded the highest rated/salaried player at that position. The draft would run in the same order as the regular draft, over 4 days. Day 1 teams 1-7 send a list for 5 rounds of picks, designating positions to be filled and the draft administrator would fill out the 35 picks based upon rating, durability and then salary if there are ties and send out the results. Day 2 would have teams 8 thru 14, Day 3 teams 15 thru 21 and Day 4 teams 22-28. These would be a teams only injury depth so it would be in their best interest to diversify these picks. These players would be returned to the free agent pool at the end of the regular season, so there is no incentive to try and pick players with potential, it would be strictly for injury/durability coverage.

Yes     - 14

No      - 12

Abstain -  2

The only really tight vote, seems the league was split on it but in the end not quite enough support to push it through so the injury replacement system will stay in place for the upcoming season.
