I. MESSAGE FROM THE COMMISSIONER

Congratulations to both of the teams who played in this years Super Bowl.  Andy Henderson has worked hard and put together a great team and really made it a great final game of the season.  Daniele Miozzi has built a team to be proud of and with some really good coaching has won the big game for the first time and shown that his great regular season was just the set up for a Super Bowl Champion.

Please welcome our two new owners to the ISFL.  Valentino Montalbano is taking over the Houston Texans and can be reached at montalbanovalentino@yahoo.it for all league related matters.  Jerry Conca as rejoined us as the new owner of the NY Jets and can be reached at sbaapba@aol.com for trading and game contacts. Welcome to the league guys, good to have 2 good new owners and be full up again.

Be sure if you have trouble hooking up to be sure you get a plan in place and a sub if needed.  Thanks for the great work guys!  I have updated files on the website for the end of the regular season, go ahead and get those and start thinking about awards voting.  I will get playoff files out by Thursday and then you can get started on your game contacts for the wild card games.

I can’t stress enough that you need to IMMEDIATELY send me your game export when the game is complete.  Send your write up later on, that’s fine, but I MUST have the game export as soon as the game ends or I’ll have to sim the game to keep things.

***There is a new game update available on the website, dated 11/6/13 ***

Don’t forget, if you lose a player for 2 or more games, you can ask for an injury replacement, but it must be done the same week as the injury, so don’t wait, get those requests in right away and take advantage, especially the teams who are already challenged for the amount of games they have to work with.  Also, be sure you give me enough names as the more injuries the more likely someone else already grabbed the guy you want.

Reminder that you MUST send a boxscore and writeup to the league after each game.  The home team is responsible for this, but either team can do it, as long as it does get done.  Also, you MUST send me the game export immediately after the game is complete.  It takes about 30 seconds, so I shouldn’t have to chase you down for that file after a game, just get it in right away so I don’t have to guess whether a game has happened or not.

II. News from Around the League

The Super Bowl was a great contest as the Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots take it right down to the wire and a last minute field goal gets the Patriots the 34-31 win.

Coming up we have the offseason as we wait on the new league files and then we can get things going with a new set of files and the draft probably around May 1st.

Super Bowl XVII Recap

At the Superdome of New Orleans the New England Patriots and the Arizona Cardinals face off for the ISFL superbowl XVII and this was a great game, believe me.

The two teams are almost at full strenght, as the only player missing is Morris Claiborne, CB of New England.

The dome grants that the weather don't affect the show :-)

The Patriots wins the coin and decide to defer.

And the first drive show us how hot mr.Brady will be, with a 6/6 for 64 yards. The Patriots wasn't able to find a way to stop him for all the day.

Luckily for them, he missed a crucial pass to Boldin for a 3rd &3 and the drive ended with a FG of Graham. ARI 3 - NE 0.

The Patriots start equally strong, as Peterson gained 24 yards on the ground on the first play, but needed a lot of luck to mark the points.

First they need a bootleg of their QB to close a 4th and 1 on the Arizona 41, then 2 blessed penalties (the second one that called back a Peterson's fumble lost...) to allow Netwon to find Gronky for a 5 yards hitch in the end zone. ARI 3 - NE 7.

From now on, and for the most part of the first half, Arizona take the control of the match, while New England was only able to go for a pair of 3 & out.

And in the meanwhile, the Cardinals scored twice. First on a QB sneak of Brady and than on a long cross pass for Smith (a 55 yards gain that beat Stevie Brown, who was in and out for most of the game due to an injury, on a man to man cover).

So New england found himself down 17-7 with 1.46 in the first half, with an offense unable to produce yards, and points. Not a good sign, i think.

But Newton wasn't arrived so far to let the game fade away just after an half.

With 4 complete passes to Roberts, Shorts and Gronkowski and with a little help from his star RB, the Patriots were able to find the endzone, with 30 second left on the clock, thanks to a 3 yards hitch for Peterson. At the end of the first half the game is almost in balance: ARI 17 - NE 14, with the first ball of the second half on their hands.

In the second half, New England started to run more behind their runner, and Peterson started to work the Arizona defense, with some good gains (of 4, 6 and 7 yards) that started to open up some space for the passing game.

But, maybe, the most important thing of the drive was that The Patriots lost their franchise QB, Newton, for the game and were forced to go with his reserve: Kirk Cousin, who played only a bunch of snaps in the regular season, and never in the playoff.

Surprisingly, the rookie was awesome.

He ended the first drive with a 3/3 for 36 yards and a TD. Not bad at all. ARI 17 - NE 21.

The next two drive saw the two teams score a TD.

First, Brady engined a solid, and fast, drive closed by a TD of Boldin, then was the time of Peterson run for a 5 yards TD. And the situation was still the same: ARI 24 - NE 28, but now with 14 minutes to play.

In this shoot out, the New England defense, suddenly remember that they also was invited to the game, and, finally, stopped Brady and forced Arizona to a punt.

With the ball on their hands with 9.53 to play, the Patriots started a long drive behind Peterson. 8 runs for 57 yards, allowed to New England to arrive to the opponent 22, but they was forced to a FG. ARI 24 - NE 31.

With 3 minutes left, Brady knows that this must be a TD drive.

And once again, he done that.

The problem was that he need only 1.20 minute to score the tie, allowing to New England a last chance to win the game.

1.39 to the end, on their 20, coach Miozzi says: "no risk, no glory", so he let his rookie QB to show what he can do.

And Cousin opened the drive with a long fly to Shorts, covered by Jennings, a ballhawk. And this paid, as Shorts gained 27 yards.

Again, was the time of Roberts to contribute with a 14 yards gain.

And the MVP and future all of famer, Adrian Peterson, closed the game running for two bloody runs of 18 and 14 yards to set the winning FG with 3 second left and the first trophy for the New England Patriots under the new regime. ARI 31 - NE 34.

MVP: Adrian Peterson. AP deserve it with 185 yards and a TD on the ground and 22 yards and a TD by air. He also deserve, maybe, the MVP title for the playoff, as he run for 109, 144 and 185 yards with 2 TD on the ground and 1 by air.

Honorable Mention: Tom Brady and the Cardinals passing game. Almost unstoppable, with 334 yards and 3 TDs.

Kirk Cousin. The rookie filled in for the injuried Newton and finished the game with 10/11, 132 yards 1 TD. A good start.

And with this beautiful game, i close a wonderfull season.

I don't know if i will be able to do that again, but, folks, this time was amazing.

Last but not least, hat off for my opponent, Andy Henderson, who played really well today and, i think, also for all the season. We face off twice this season and were both tight game.

I wish you a better luck the next year.
