MESSAGE FROM THE COMMISSIONER
A
tale of two games as the NFC Championship comes down to a final minute
FG as the Cards advance while the AFC Championship was never in doubt
with the Patriots building a big lead and then cruising to victory.
Congrats to the Jags and Browns for great seasons, good luck next
year guys! For those not in, please hang around as I will have some
final things for you to complete before the season is over.
Be sure if you have trouble
hooking up to be sure you get a plan in place and a sub if needed.
Thanks for the great work guys!
I have updated files on the website for the end of the regular
season, go ahead and get those and start thinking about awards voting.
I will get playoff files out by Thursday and then you can get
started on your game contacts for the wild card games.
I
can’t stress enough that you need to IMMEDIATELY send me your game
export when the game is complete.
Send your write up later on, that’s fine, but I MUST have the
game export as soon as the game ends or I’ll have to sim the game to
keep things.
Don’t
forget, if you lose a player for 2 or more games, you can ask for an
injury replacement, but it must be done the same week as the injury, so
don’t wait, get those requests in right away and take advantage,
especially the teams who are already challenged for the amount of games
they have to work with.
Also, be sure you give me enough names as the more injuries the more
likely someone else already grabbed the guy you want.
Reminder that you MUST send a boxscore and writeup to the league after
each game. The home team is
responsible for this, but either team can do it, as long as it does get
done. Also, you MUST send me
the game export immediately after the game is complete.
It takes about 30 seconds, so I shouldn’t have to chase you down
for that file after a game, just get it in right away so I don’t have to
guess whether a game has happened or not.

News from Around the League
This
week in the AFC the New England Patriots cruise to an easy win over the
Cleveland Browns who had a great season to this point and just came up a
bit short in their final push to the tile game.
This
week in the NFC we had a tight game that went down to the wire as the
Arizona Cardinals ride a late FG to get the win and advance over the
Jacksonville Jaguars.
Coming up we have the Super Bowl and a couple of first time owners and
one team that has never made the big game in their history.
It has been 15 seasons since the Patriots made the Super Bowl and
owner/coach Daniele Miozzi has done a great job of building a true
contender and have earned their shot at the big game.
On the other side we have Andy Henderson and the Arizona
Cardinals who make their first ever appearance on the big stage and they
are another team that always seems to be sniffing around the top spot
and final get their shot at the top prize.
Championship Game Recaps
At Foxboro, under the snow,
the Browns and the Patriots face off for the title in the AFC.
The fireworks started early
as the Browns' coach, Bob Clark, decided to play hard from the beginning
and go with a pass on a 4th and 2 in the first drive on New England 41.
But Wilfork didn't agree,
and sacked Flacco for a 4 yards loss and, more important, for a turnover
on down.
From now on, the nightmare
(before Christmas?!) begin for Cleveland.
All the first half was a
big show from the home team who scored 6 times on 7 drives.
A FG of Succop opened the
dances, following by a TD of Gronky, a beautifull short pass turned in a
52 yards TD by Roberts, another FG of Sukkop, the longest run of the
season of Peterson (62 yards) and a 3rd FG of Succop to close the first
half.
In the first hald Cleveland
got 5 punts and an interception, for 94 yards, 3 sacks and 0 points.
The result at half time
was: CLE 0 - NE 30.
In the second half the
things went a little different.
The shouting of coach Clark
during the break could be year till Boston, and i know that someone call
the police for some noise nuisance....
Cleveland forced a 3 & out
on the first drive of New England and engined a very good drive, but the
Lucky Lady hate the Brows today.
On a 2nd & 4, Flacco was
intercepted for the 2nd time by Haden.
But Browns' defense got the
message delivered from their coach, and forced a fumble 2 plays later.
Who didn't get the message
was Flacco, and the drive stalled on the Patriots 12. A FG closed the
drive: 30-3.
The next drive the defense
again forced a turnover, an int. by Carey, but, again, Flacco wasn't
able to capitalize and the drive was another turnover on downs for
Cleveland.
From now on, the Patriots
started to run the clock running the ball, but the Browns never can
capitalize on their offensive drive and Flacco was even able to loose
the ball again, this time with an int. to Wright.
On the last drive, with
some New England backups on the field, Flacco was able to find Baldwin
for a 4 yards TD that close the game 30-10.
MVP: Adrian Peterson. with
144 yards and a TD on 17 carries (8.5 per play!) he deserve it.
Honorable Mention: Cam
Newton, 2 TD / 1 INT - 192 yards on 13/20 under the snow is not so bad.
(Dis)honorable Mention: Joe
Flacco. 18/38 for 190 yards 1 TD / 3 INT and a rating of 38.3. Too bad
for the NFL winner of the last superbowl, even under the snow.
A game not so thrilled,
after all, virtually closed after the first half. Good luck to Bob for
the next season.
Now New England is waiting
for his trip to New Orleans for their first Superbowl!
