I. MESSAGE FROM THE COMMISSIONER

Congratulations to both Andy Henderson of the Cardinals and Roberto Tosco of the Jets, both had great seasons that just came up a little bit short.  On we go to Super Bowl XVI and the Indianapolis Colts will face off with the undefeated Jacksonville Jaguars.  Keep up with those game contacts asap and good luck to all in the Super Bowl.

Ballot voting is underway!  http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/GZRYFBH

I can’t stress enough that need to IMMEDIATELY send me your game export when the game is complete.  Send your write up later on, that’s fine, but I MUST have the game export as soon as the game ends or I’ll have to sim the game to keep things.

***A new game update is available dated 12/7, please get it from the ISFL website before you play any games this week.***

Don’t forget, if you lose a player for 2 or more games, you can ask for an injury replacement, but it must be done the same week as the injury, so don’t wait, get those requests in right away and take advantage, especially the teams who are already challenged for the amount of games they have to work with.  Also, be sure you give me a enough names.  Week 2 there were 15+ injury requests, if you are a good team, you will need to list 3, 4 or more names to be sure you get a player you want.

Reminder that you MUST send a boxscore and writeup to the league after each game.  The home team is responsible for this, but either team can do it, as long as it does get done.  Also, you MUST send me the game export immediately after the game is complete.  It takes about 30 seconds, so I shouldn’t have to chase you down for that file after a game, just get it in right away so I don’t have to guess whether a game has happened or not.

II. News from Around the League

The Championship games were a bit anti-climactic as Jacksonville continues their undefeated run with a fairly easy win over the visiting Arizona Cardinals, 34-17, while Indianapolis runs away with the AFC as they thrash the NY Jets, 34-13.  This sets up a matchup of a first time Super Bowl participant in Indianapolis versus a Jacksonville squad that one the big game 5 years ago and are back for another shot at it.

Super Bowl XVI

Indianapolis Colts vs Jacksonville Jaguars

AFC Championship Game

Indy posts a 34-13 victory over visiting NY Jets and moves on to make its first SB appearance in franchise history. The game was lot closer than what final score indicates. Roberto called a great game and made Indy coach pretty nervous until the last few minutes.

After winning the toss and electing to receive, Jets punt the ball after five plays.  Indy methodically moves the ball to Jets 24, but gets stalled there. Matt Prater converts a 42 yard field goal to put Indy up 3-0. On the ensuing possession Jets move the ball to Indy 34, but fail to convert a 51 Yard field goal. After exchanging punts on the next few possessions, Indy mounts a 8 play 92 yard drive which is capped off by Rodgers to Jennings 23 yard TD pass to go up 10-0. On the next possession, Jets put up their best drive of the game, facing 3 and 25 at their own 46 yard line, Hasselbeck finds Hankerson for a 29 yard gain. The drive is capped of by a 12 yard TD pass from Hasselbeck to Gafney to narrow the score to 10-7.

Indy gets the ball to open the second half, and goes up 13-7 on a Prater 36 yard field goal. Disaster strikes for Jets offense on next possession as Hasselbeck is intercepted by Gamble, who returns it for 38 yards to Jets 10 yard line. Rodgers finishes the drive with a 10 yard TD run to put Indy up 20-7. After exchanging punts on the next few possession, Jets muster some offense and narrow the score to 20-10 on Barth 44 field goal. On the next possession  confusion arises between Rodger and Roddy White on the route, Atogwe seeing this jumps the route and intercepts Rodgers pass and returns 10 yards to Indy 25. Hasselbeck moves the ball to Indy 3 with completions to Gafney and Morris.Indy coach nervously paces on the sidelines, knowing that a TD here would wipe their 10 point lead to 3. 1st and goal at 3, Brad smith gets stuffed  for no gain, next play Turner is stopped for a 3 yards loss, and on 3rd down Hasselbeck pass falls incomplete and Jets have to settle for a field goal to make it 20-13.

On the ensuing possession Rody White and Aaron Rodgers iron out their differences as Rodgers find White for 30 yard gain, and Indy finishes the drive with a 1yard TD run by Kuhn to go up 27-13. Jets couldn't do much on the next possession and punt the ball, Peterson returns it for a 79 yard TD to put a lid on any sort of comeback by the Jets offense. Hasselbeck throws an interception on the next possession to pretty much end the game.

According to Action MVP of the game was Peterson for his punt return TD and an Interception, but the real MVP of the game was Indy's defense which came up big in the crucial moments. Aaron Rodgers picked the worst possible time to have his worst game of the season. Indy's running attack and defense showed up big time to pick up the slack.

Since taking over the team in 2007, this is Indy's second AFC championship appearance under the new management. Indy lost to Jets last time they were in the Conference championship game.

NFC Championship Game

Jacksonville advances to the Super Bowl against the Indianapolis Colts with a convincing win over the Arizona Cardinals.

Jags get off the a fast start as Sproles returns the opening kickoff 92 yards to the 1 yard line. Brees then hit Reggie Wayne for a TD and it was 7-0 before you could blink.

On Arizona's first possession, Sean Lee picked off Roethlisberger's first pass on a dump attempt to Shonn Greene since the Jags' had good coverage downfield.

Off the turnover, Brees hit Fred Davis on an 11 yard hitch for a first down. After 2 runs by Thomas, Sproles reaches the first down marker. It's close so Andy challenges but the call on the field stood. Off the big first down at AZ's 37 yard line, Brees hit Garcon, Wayne and then Garcon again to drive the ball down to the 1. Thomas then ran up the middle for the short yardage TD giving the Jags an early 14-0 lead.

Arizona scored next on a FG to make it 14-3 but the Jags scored 2 more TDs on another short run by Thomas and a TD pass from Brees to Garcon.

With the score 28-3 Jags coming out of the half, the Jags leaned on their run game in the second half to run out the clock. Mike Tolbert rushed for a TD and Jacoby Ford returned a kickoff for a TD but it was not enough as the Jag would add 2 FGs and dominate the clock in the second half.

The Jags return to the Super Bowl for the first time since their 2007 win over the New York Jets,

Congrats to Andy on making the NFC Championship and building a team that looks like it will be good for years to come.
