MESSAGE FROM THE COMMISSIONER
Hope
everyone had a great holiday and congrats to the winners of the Wildcard
games, now it is on to round 2!
For everyone else, thanks for a great regular season and hang
with me a bit longer as we have some business to complete before you are
off for the offseason (see below)
Keep up with those game contacts asap and good luck to all in the
wild card round.
It’s
time for awards nominations.
I have set up an easy poll for you guys to fill in, just follow the link
provided and post your nominations for each of the awards.
Nominations are due by Sunday, January 13th at
midnight. http://kwiksurveys.com/s.asp?sid=e8fqd80hm08ctf564526
Also,
it’s ballot proposal season now.
I would like to have all ballot proposals put in by Sunday,
January 13th and we will vote on them shortly thereafter.
Please, I need fully thought out proposals that we can discuss
and refine as necessary and keep in mind that something that will
benefit the league as a whole is much more likely to pass, so be careful
on the wording.
I
can’t stress enough that need to IMMEDIATELY send me your game export
when the game is complete.
Send your write up later on, that’s fine, but I MUST have the game
export as soon as the game ends or I’ll have to sim the game to keep
things.
***A
new game update is available dated 12/7, please get it from the ISFL
website before you play any games this week.***
Don’t
forget, if you lose a player for 2 or more games, you can ask for an
injury replacement, but it must be done the same week as the injury, so
don’t wait, get those requests in right away and take advantage,
especially the teams who are already challenged for the amount of games
they have to work with.
Also, be sure you give me a enough names.
Week 2 there were 15+ injury requests, if you are a good team,
you will need to list 3, 4 or more names to be sure you get a player you
want.
Reminder that you MUST send a boxscore and writeup to the league after
each game. The home team is
responsible for this, but either team can do it, as long as it does get
done. Also, you MUST send me
the game export immediately after the game is complete.
It takes about 30 seconds, so I shouldn’t have to chase you down
for that file after a game, just get it in right away so I don’t have to
guess whether a game has happened or not.

News from Around the League
The
wildcard games in the AFC had a couple of good ballgames with Buffalo
coming on late to put away Tennessee, 29-21 and the New York Jets taking
a 10 point win, 27-17, over the New England Patriots.
Round
2 Matchups:
Buffalo Bills at Indianapolis Colts
Jets played a good game and luck (or maybe
homefield advantage) helped them a bit: even if turnovers and penalties
was almost even, Patriots committed theirs at most critical times. Trailing 20-7 and Buffalo driving, Tennessee's
Kenny Phillips picks off Brady near the goal line to give Titans a
spark.
The
NFC wildcard games were a contrast as Kansas City handles Tampa Bay
easily, 34-10 while the Panthers and Seahawks play a barn burner, with
Carolina coming out on top, 38-35 over Seattle.
Round
2 Matchups:
Kansas City Chiefs at Arizona Cardinals
Carolina at Seattle in a wildcard shootout Sunday on NBC.
Many subplots to this contest, with both sides’s skill players matching
up well: high rushing averages, 3- and 4-deep at WR, and Seattle QB
Michael Vick, who historically has caused me major problems and is the
only QB I have ever used the “Qbspy" defense (unsuccessfully) against.
After a Carolina FG, Seattle moves ahead quickly 7-3 on a 9-play,
80-yard drive. Vick was unstoppable here, running for 25 yards and 3-3
passing, 31 yards to Green, and a TD pass to RB Darren McFadden. This
feels like the start of a shootout.
Carolina scores TDs, on its next two possessions, aided by a big 15-yard
penalty and a Fred Jackson 25-yard run on the first, and good field
position on the second. With a stop here and another score, this could
be game.
Seattle says no as Vick spreads the ball around to multple targets on
the way to a 91-yard TD drive. Seattle WR Michael Crabtree steps up,
converting a big 4thand 5 in one of the game’s key moments with a
15-yard gain. McFadden contributes 13 and 20-yard breakaways on the
drive as Carolina’s LBs are staying basic. Now in the red zone, Vick
finds Crabtree, who steps up again on a 7-yard TDP and cut the Carolina
lead to 20-14.
16 seconds later, Carolina RB Fred Jackson takes a sweep 80 yards to
extend the lead, 27-14. Wild.
2:15 on the clock in the second half, Seattle answers with a 10-play
82-yard TD drive, led by Michael Vick again, who converts a 3rdand 19 at
the Seattle 19 on a 28-yard scramble. Vick finds AJ Green in the end
zone to finish the drive. 27-21.
Seattle is rolling now and continues to roll into the third, moving the
ball well with run pass balance, and challenging Carolina’s D on 4th
down. I get bailed out against a Seattle 4th and 2 pass call against vs
a run key D by a holding penalty. But McNabb can’t get things going
against the Seattle defense, going 0-3 and out. Not good. Seattle is
driving again, this time on the ground as McFadden is starting to wear
out the D on the way to 1st and goal on the 6. 3 running plays later,
it’s 4thand 2. Seattle is going for it. In another key moment of the
game, Vick’s short pass falls incomplete.
McNabb can’t move the Panthers out of their own red zone, however,
checking down to secondaries like crazy. The ensuing punt gives Seattle
great field position to resume marching on Carolina. This time they find
paydirt as RB James Starks takes a pitch 20 yards and gives Seattle the
lead 28-27 heading into the 4th.
McNabb to pass, looking medium, can't find anyone again, and
is intercepted by Seattle all-pro safety Earl Thomas to the Carolina 11.
The stadium erupts. Chaos breaks out on the Carolina sideline. The
cameras spot Donovan and the head coach (me) in an angry exchange as he
comes off the field.
Seattle converts, James Starks for 10 up the middle, 1st and goal at the
1. Vick converts the drive on a TD pass to McFadden out of the
backfield. This is Vick’s 4thTD pass of the game. I can't stop this guy.
35-27 Seattle.
Carolina’s next drive begins on the ground. CJ Spiller is stuffed on an
end around. McNabb’s 3rd down pass attempt falls incomplete. Carolina
rookie QB Jake Locker starts warming up on the sideline. A Seattle score
now, and this, again, could be game.
3rd and 1, Vick to pass and scrambling again, is hit. Fumbles. Recovered
by Carolina on the Seattle 22.
On 3rd and 5, Fred Jackson converts the first down on a sweep to the 12,
but the spot is overruled by replay challenge. Game of inches. 4th and
goal, McNabb, fakes the handoff and looks to pass. He checks down, and
cannot convert. Father Time is closing in. Incomplete. The cameras spot
Donovan sitting by himself on the sideline, nobody within 20 feet. This
could be game.
Seattle ball now with 8 minutes left. On 2nd and 20 after a Carolina
sack, Vick finds AJ Green for 19. Seattle converts the first down at
midfield. Any kind of score here puts Carolina down by at least 11.
Desperation time. 3rd and 4 at the 50. Vick looking for Early Doucet,
incomplete. Seattle punts, angling to the sideline.
4 minutes left now and Carolina ball at the 21. Spiller takes a reverse
for 12. The clock is ticking. McNabb drops back, fighting against both
Seattle's D and Father Time now, and goes bomb to Victor Cruz for 66
yards to the 1. The next play, McNabb checks down from a covered Cruz
and finds Kyle Rudolph for the TD. Fred Jackson converts 2. 35-35 with
2:23 to play.
Seattle goes 3-and-out on their next possession and lines up for the
punt. -10 fumble. Carolina ball. Stunning. Tynes hits the chip shot FG.
Thanks to Bill for a wild, hard-fought game that went down to the wire,
and that looked to be headed to OT.
Three INT's (one returned for TD) dooms TB in
their first round playoff game at KC.
