I. MESSAGE FROM THE COMMISSIONER

Here we go again!  Start of the 14th ISFL season is this week and hopefully everyone is ready to go for another great season of internet football.  Please get in contact with your opponent asap as I assume everyone can get games played as I haven’t heard from anyone that they can’t host or connect.  Good luck to all as we get started and make sure you read the whole newsletter as there is a lot of info to remind yourself of, especially right below. Have at it!

A new game update is available dated 8/17, please get it from the ISFL website before you play any games this week.

Don’t forget, if you lose a player for 2 or more games, you can ask for an injury replacement, but it must be done the same week as the injury, so don’t wait, get those requests in right away and take advantage, especially the teams who are already challenged for the amount of games they have to work with (this obviously doesn’t apply to anyone who won’t be playing in the playoffs).

Reminder that you MUST send a boxscore and writeup to the league after each game.  The home team is responsible for this, but either team can do it, as long as it does get done.  Also, you MUST send me the game export immediately after the game is complete.  It takes about 30 seconds, so I shouldn’t have to chase you down for that file after a game, just get it in right away so I don’t have to guess whether a game has happened or not.

II. News from Around the League

In the AFC, we kick off the season with some great matchups already as we will find out early who is a contender and who may have a long season ahead of them. The marquee matchup has Indianapolis heading to New York for a replay of last years AFC Championship game with the Colts looking for some revenge and a quick start to their season, while New York looks to become the first repeat winner in 10 seasons.  Houston will have something to say in the final outcome for the conference and they open up with division rival Buffalo who look for their first winning season in a few years.  Dallas will look to get back on top out West and open the season with St. Louis and their new head coach, we’ll find out what the Rams have in store for us this year in a tough opening contest.  Denver and San Diego start things off in a battle of the bottom two from last year, who gets a leg up and a win right off the bat in this matchup.  Chicago at Cleveland should be a good matchup as both teams look to be playoff contenders and move into the top group of teams in the AFC this year.  Tennessee look to repeat as West champions this year and start off with the rebuilt Patriots who will try and make some noise this season.  Minnesota and San Francisco meet up in week 1 as both teams hope to stay with Tennessee and Dallas in the playoff fight.  Finally, the commissioner and his Steelers will travel to Atlanta and try and avoid their third straight season of poor starts so we don’t have to go on a huge winning streak again this season.

In the NFC, as has been said, the Rams start a new era under new ownership, but have a lot of the pieces that took them to the final last year and should be a team to reckon with again.  Carolina looks to parlay their big streak from last season which got them into the playoffs into a second straight playoff season again the Buccaneers who want to finally get into the playoff picture again.  Kansas City has made a lot of off season changes and will look to push the Rams in the Central and they start off with division rival Green Bay who are under new ownership and should be another team contending for a playoff spot.  NY Giants and Jacksonville start off with a tough division matchup of teams who should be fighting for that top spot in both the division and conference.   Atlanta is rebuilding a bit with big questions at QB, but they’ll see if their three headed monster at the position have an answer for the visiting Steelers.  Arizona looks to continue their winning ways and are a tough matchup for Miami in week 1 as they continue to try and build towards the playoffs.  Detroit gets a rebuilding Seattle club as they try and contend for the top spot in the East, while Philadephia and New Orleans have maybe the biggest NFC matchup of the week as they should be in a four way fight with the Cards and Panthers to win the NFC West this season.
