Week in Review/Preview
Not many surprises this week in the AFC as the top 6 teams all win games against lesser opponents, Tennessee beats up on the Vikings to stay
in the playoff fight and New England is the only one to drop a game but they also still have some slight playoff options despite their loss to
the Jets. The Jets have a big game in the division as the Texans come to town, hoping to give themselves a shot at the division with an upset
win. The Central sees a similar situation as Indianapolis travels to Pittsburgh to try and cut the lead to one game for the division title.
Wins by the Jets or Steelers would lock up the division for those teams and assure home field games to start the playoffs. Dallas has a non-
conference game against a desperate Saints club who needs the win to stay in the playoff race and San Diego hosts Tennessee with hopes of
clinching a playoff spot while the Titans want to just stay alive. The Patriots are the only other team who can make the playoffs in the AFC
still but face a huge obstacle in the form of the NFC leading Rams, a win and they stay alive, a loss and the playoffs in the AFC could be set
heading to the bye week.
There is a similar situation in the NFC as there are 5 teams who clinched playoffs slots as Philly and St. Louis win easy games and have won
their respective divisions while the NFC East just got tighter as Detroit, Atlanta and Jacksonville all beat sub .500 teams to keep pace.
Green Bay and New Orleans both lost in the fight for the final playoff slot, so nothing changed there, though Tampa Bay won to get back into
the fight. A few others are mathematically alive, but would need a lot of help to get to the playoffs and games this week should shake things
out a bit more. Detroit heads to Jacksonville for the biggest game of the season as the champs look to try and get back to the top of the
division and the Lions look to put a stranglehold on it with a win. Atlanta faces a tough Denver team and with a win this division could be
all tied up with 3 games to play. Philly hosts Tampa Bay and could just about ends the Bucs chances for the playoffs while St. Louis has a
similar situation with the Patriots and could send them to the golf course as well. New Orleans has a tough game with Dallas, but a win for
the Saints could give them a leg up in the playoff race while Green Bay heads to Miami with the easiest chance of improving their chances for
the final playoff spot.
Plaxico Burress catches 15 balls for 227 yards and 3 TDs in a losing effort for the Seahawks to earn AFC Offensive Player of the Week.
Tommie Harris is all over his old teammate, Trent Edwards, as he leads the Rams to a shutout win over the Chiefs, aided by his 3 sacks and 4
tackles in the game.
II. News from Around the League
Game of the Week
Detroit Lions at Jacksonville Jaguars
The NFC East is the toughest division with 3 teams with 9 or more wins already and Detroit is looking to try and put a stranglehold on the
division with a big win over the Jags this week. Detroit has beat Atlanta twice and the Jaguars once already, a win here would give them a
huge leg up in the division. A win for Jacksonville could mean that three team would be tied at the top of the division with 3 games to play
though Detroits 7-1 division record would mean they would hold the tiebreakers, so Atlanta or Jacksonville want to avoid a tie at the top
down the stretch.
