Message from the Commissioner II. News from Around the League III. Standings IV. Results V. Week 11 Schedule VI. Transactions VII. Other News including Players of the Week I. MESSAGE FROM THE COMMISSIONER The trade deadline has come and gone and we had one blockbuster deal as the defending champs make the big move to try and get back to the top of the heap in the NFC. The Jags pick up a big time addition to the secondary as Marcus Trufant travels east to help shore up the DBs. Joining him will be Sean Alexander who will try and help take some of the load off of LT down the stretch. Seattle does well as they add emerging sack specialist, Lemar Woodley and the Jags #1 pick in the next draft. The Jags also upgrade their kicking game as they swap out Gostkowski for Kris Brown and at the same time, swapping OCs Koppen for Saturday as well with division rival NY Giants. The Detroit Lions dont sit still as they add Sean Taylor for the stretch run and the playoffs in hopes he can help hold off those Jags. Week in Review/Preview The NFC playoff picture is clearing up pretty quickly as 5 teams already have at least a 2 game lead on 7th place and we could start seeing teams clinch a playoff spot as early as next week. Detroit drops a heart breaker at the Jets and falls back into a tie with Atlanta for the East division lead. Jacksonville has picked it up and sits just 1 game back, waiting for the teams ahead of them to falter so they can win the head to head matchups and get the top spot back. St. Louis could clinch the Central with a win and GB loss in week 11 as they hold a 4 game lead and the hth tiebreaker over the Pack. Philly has the same situation in the West with a big lead on the Saints and the tiebreaker, if they can beat Carolina in week 11 and if NO struggles with the Bucs, who need that game to get into the race for the final playoff spot, the Eagles can wrap up their division. Green Bay and New Orleans hold a tenuous lead for that final spot and Tampa Bay is just hoping for a chance to catch them. Even KC and Carolina could have a shot, but theyd need a lot of help besides winning their own games, so they may well be playing for pride at this point, though anything can happen. In the AFC the top 3 teams keep rolling on to 9-1 as the Jets win that huge game over the Lions, the Steelers win a wild one at home vs the Patriots and the Cowboys handle Buffalo easily and all 3 teams have an outside chance to clinch a playoff spot this week. Houston and San Diego both keep pace in their divisions and just hope for some help to make all their winning worth a chance for a division title as they sit 2 games back with 6 to play. Indianapolis is at 6-4 and leads for the final playoff spot after a big win over San Francisco, but New England is right behind them despite their loss and the Titans and Bills both wait in the wings in hopes that those in front stumble and give them a chance to get in. The toughest AFC game this week will be the Steelers heading to Houston where the streaking Texans have finally found their pace and if Pittsburgh wants a bye, this is a game they cant look past as it might be the best opponent they play the rest of the way. The Jets play Tennessee and the Cowboys face the Patriots, two desperate teams who KNOW they have to win this week if they want to stay in the race for the final playoff spot, making them very dangerous opponents. SD and Indy faceoff in the final matchups of possible playoff opponents, with all these matchups, things may get very clear or the waters may just muddy a bit more after week 11. Offensive Player of the Week is Fred Taylor who showed up big in the game of the week, a 48-45 win over the Detroit Lions. Taylor had 173 yards on just 14 carries and scored a pair of TDs to lead his club to a win and help them stay on top of the AFC standings. Carolina pulls the biggest upset of the week as they rise up and smite the Saints and a big part of that was Shaun Phillips and his 4 sacks and 4 tackles which paced the club to a win and earned him Defensive Player of the Week honors. II. News from Around the League Game of the Week Atlanta Falcons at Detroit Lions After a tough non-conference loss, the Lions will look to try and re-take the division lead over the Falcons, while Atlanta hopes they can get back to the top and stay ahead of the charging Jaguars. A win here for Detroit gives them a game lead and the hth tiebreaker with the Falcons, so Atlanta needs this one a lot more if they want to keep their hopes of a division title and a bye alive. III.
